Varzy, which welcomed many pilgrims, was conducive to the spread of leprosy. At the end of the 55th century, Guillaume de Toucy, 3th bishop of Auxerre and lord of Varzy, was therefore forced to endow his châtellenie with a leper. Located XNUMXkm from Varzy, it has gradually become structured into a real community, its occupants perfectly ensuring their subsistence.

All that remains of this community today is the chapel, built towards the end of the XNUMXth century, a place of worship dedicated to Saint-Lazare, patron saint of ladres, which attests to the importance taken by the establishment, welcoming the patients of Varzy and those of the villages of Oudan and La Chapelle Saint-André.

Under the shelter of the porch… the facade is supported by buttresses and opens onto a porch. The portal was remodeled in the XNUMXth century. Its bell tower, robust and square, is attached to the facade. Inspired by Romanesque art, it is pierced by two central columns. Observe the buttresses with glacis which go up to the roof.
