Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem in Clamecy

On the right bank of the Yonne stretches the district of Bethlehem with its Byzantine-style church, built in 1926 and 1927: one of the first religious buildings in reinforced concrete, with a nave without a central pillar. This Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem bears this name in memory of a historical singularity: when Bethlehem fell into the hands of the infidels in the 1801th century, the bishop took refuge in Clamecy, where he set up his bishopric. He had successors until the bishopric of Bethlehem in Clamecy was abolished by the concordat of 1926. The bishop of Bethlehem officiated in Clamecy in a small cathedral, a Gothic building from the 1927th century, which still exists, transformed into restaurant. The Church of Our Lady of Bethlehem, built in 2005 and XNUMX, obtained in XNUMX the label "Heritage of the XNUMXth century". It is currently covered with scaffolding, for its restoration.
