More information

The chapel of the Round Head bears the name of the hill on the top of which it was built. Its architecture is simple: facade framed by two towers, portal with small columns and semi-circular arches, buttresses to consolidate the walls.

In 1870, at the time of the Prussian invasion, the inhabitants of Menou had promised to build a chapel there if the Prussians did not enter their territory.

Menou not having been invaded, the first stone was laid on August 15, 1873.

Around 1950, under the leadership of Father Maxime Jeannot, parish priest of Menou, three talented artists contributed to the reputation of this chapel.

A statue of the Virgin, the work of the painter and sculptor Robert Pouyaud (1901-1970), surmounts the building.

Inside, murals, created by the poster artist Charles Loupot (1892-1962) retrace, from stylized characters, the life of the Virgin.

The very colorful stained glass windows by master glassmaker Max Ingrand (1908-1969), renowned in France and abroad, magnify the light of the place.
