Charles Loupot, renowned poster designer

Charles Loupot was born in Nice in 1892; residing in Paris, it was during a chance trip that he fell under the spell of the small village of Chevroches, near Clamecy. In 1934, he bought an old quarryman's house there, overlooking the valley, and lived there mainly during the war. Renowned poster artist, he produced many posters, the most famous of which for well-known brands such as the Saint-Raphaël aperitif, Valentine paintings, furniture from the Galeries Barbès, Coty perfumes, L'Oréal products, Monsavon, Dop, Peugeot cars, Air Liquide. A very fine collection of posters produced between 1918 and 1960, supplemented by studies and graphic works, is exhibited at the Romain Rolland Museum of Art and History. Locally, we owe Loupot the decoration and the stained glass windows of the Notre-Dame de Tête Ronde chapel in Menou and the stylized rooster placed at the top of the steeple of the church of Chevroches.
